.....if you are wanting to experience a more natural and authentic Italian holiday..., if you want to wake in the morning to the sound of nature....., if you like to take a leisurely lunch of fresh locally produced food and wine..., if you like to wander little cobbled streets visiting small trattorias..., and if you want to relax at the end of a perfect day on the roof terrace under a canopy of a million stars then, Trullo Sotto Le Stelle is for you. The name of our Trullo translates to 'Trullo under the stars'.
This beautifully restored Trullo and adjoining Lamia (stone extension) provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for those wanting to experience a more natural and authentic holiday experience. A Trullo is a conical shaped house unique to the Itrian Valley located in the Puglia region of Southern Italy.
Trullo sotto le stelle is situated in a tranquil and panoramic position amidst five acres of olive, cherry and almond trees. It is almost equidistant between the two regional airports of Bari and Brindisi and also the Ionian and Adriatic seas. Add to this the fact that the this area has the two World Heritage sites of Alberobello and Matera in very close proximity, making this house an ideal choice for your next holiday.
This unique and characterful house has a spacious and luminous lounge equipped with a digital TV, DVD and Wifi. A large open fireplace provides extra warmth in addition to the central heating in the colder months. Double aspect arched doors lead on to the two terraces.
A special feature of this property is the large roof terrace with 360 degree views over the surrounding countryside and a tantalising glimpse of the Adriatic sea on the horizon. In the early spring the landscape is carpeted by wild flowers and cherry trees heavy with abundant pink and white blossom. Later in the season the red Puglian earth dries and heat can be fierce but this is tempered by the cool limestone flooring and breezes that play over the hill where the house is situated. Take the opportunity for a siesta in the heat of the afternoon and join the locals at about 8pm in one of the many historic villages where restuarants provide a warm welcome and choice of excellent local dishes at resaonable cost. Its not an area where English is spoken widely so bring along your phrase book and have fun conversing with the local people.
The original Trullo with its thick creamy white limestone walls that once gave shelter to peasant farmers and their livestock, is now a spacious bright kitchen. Its amply equipped in a simple and contemporary Italian style that is characteristic of this area. There is a fridge/freezer, cooker/hob, toaster and kettle. A modern dining table and 6 chairs complete this area.
The recently constructed 6 metre x 10 metre graduated depth (0.75m - 2-5m) swimming pool has a large paved area and lounging chairs for those lazy summer days and warm evenings.
The drive to the house is shared only with another neighbour and there is parking for 2-3 cars. The access is level to the rear of the property.
